My Road to Literacy

"Wow Philippe! This paper you wrote is really good! You scored one of the highest grades in class!" That's what my teacher said when I was in third grade. I remember that when I was young, I used to be a great writer. From then on my papers were usually really good during all that year. My fellow classmates would always congratulate me and usually ask me for advice. I remember how it all started.
Stephen King once said that; "Quiet people have the loudest minds." I believe that saying because in school, I was always shy and quiet. Even though I never really talked, I was always thinking about things. Since I didn't talk much, I found it easy to put everything on my mind into words. I did very well on my first essay because of this and from then on, I started to open up a little more in my class because I was starting to gain a little popular. I have my mom to thank for my writing skills being the way they are today. When I was a kid she would always read me picture books and it always made me think. The first book I ever read was BROWN BEAR and I loved it because it taught me about colors. .
I believe that because of that childhood experience with my mom reading me color books all the time, I later got into comics. When I was in middle school my favorite book was CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS. I liked it because of the colors and also I liked the art style, especially when the words would pop out saying "POW." I feel like after reading those books it helped me make really good onomatopoeia's at the beginning of my essays from then on.
It wasn't always easy in Elementary School though. Later on in 4th grade I had more papers do and I did ok on them, but when it came down to the FCAT Writes I surprising failed by half of a point. I was astonished! I had always thought that I was really good writer up until that point. I began to think; "what if my teacher lied to me this whole time.
