A Reflective Memoir on My Trip to China

In life, the experiences of an individual tend to shape his character and bring out who he is. When being involved in these kinds of experiences, embodied knowledge is embedded and becomes a major part of your life. A major event in my life was going to China with my high school and seeing things I never saw before. Although China has beautiful aspects, I also saw terrible parts of the country such as poverty and pollution. The beautiful aspects of China gave me the aspiration to travel the globe and learn about different customs while the horrendous aspects gave me the ambition to help out in the world and make a difference. A vital stage in my life, after visiting China, is when I volunteered at Lutheran Medical Center. This is where I helped people in need and helping people in need should be like second nature, and embodied knowledge plays a huge role.
Although China was fascinating, I also saw many poor aspects. Poverty there was crucial, and you can sense the pollution as soon as you step foot onto China. There was a certain aroma every time I would step foot outside the hotel. It is so bad there, that I had rules and was advised to not use the tap water to drink and brush my teeth. The fact that you can get sick from the tap water opened my eyes. After returning from China, I joined the Make a Difference Club and participated as much as I can, I did beach clean ups, walks and anything I could to help out the environment. Pollution and poverty is getting really bad and I believe everybody should participate in order to flip the situation around. .
Nothing feels better than being able to contribute and help the community. When people are ill and weak, they need help in order to do certain activities and feel better in the long term. Last summer, I was able to help by volunteering at Lutheran Medical Center, in the oncology department. Patients in the department were crucially sick, and very vulnerable.
