The Difference Between a Father and a Dad

I know this may be something many people have been through but that doesn't mean my story isn't unique in its own. The man I call dad isn't the man who made me, he isn't the name on my birth certificate although I wish he was. The man on my birth certificate is my father but he does not deserve the title of dad. I believe the person we call dad is the person who is there for us when we need them the one is holds us when we are scared and tells us to quit being crybabies and get back on that bike and ride the one who stays up half the night helping you build a wood house that you had to incorporate electricity into. The one who you wake up at six in the morning on Christmas so you can open those presents you have been staring at the last few hours. The one who punishes you when you do something stupid, like sneaking out at night to go see your idiot boyfriend or coming home two hours late from your date. .
When my mother was a senior in high school she was head over heels in love with my father but what she didn't know was he was a horribly abusive man with a huge drinking and drug problem. She was blinded by his good looks and his smooth lying skills she moved in with him right after graduation and not to long after she got pregnant with me at the time she was well aware of what he was all about but she thought having me would make him change or so she had hoped. Well after a year he still never changed so she packed her bags and left and we were on the run for almost half a year. Once she got us in a stable place and she got a job she soon met the man I call dad. At the time we were living with my grandparents when she met Jeff the man who saved me and my mom. .
They had been dating for a little over three years when my mom got pregnant with my little brother they soon got married and we became a family. To this day I am so thankful for everything he has done for me and my mom. Without him I'm sure I would have never had the things I have or been the places I have been.
