Quality Management Tools

The goal here is to uncover requirements in a shorter amount of time. It is also a challenge to keep the group focused on the topic at hand. With that said, basic document requirements should be already put together and ready to be presented to all individuals involved.
             Facilitated sessions entail a much larger group. This could be a conference of more than five individuals at a time. This is by far the most challenging of all method, since this requires the attention and a focused meeting on the topic. However, if successful you can save a lot of time on one-on-one discussions if executed properly. Joint Application Development (JAD Sessions) are the most popular. These sessions use customer involvement and group dynamics in order to depict the users view of the business needs in order to generate a solution. Incorporating these workshops enables system requirements to be more accurate than the traditional approach. JAD combines technology and business needs in a process that is consistent, repeatable, and effective.
             Questionnaires are very informal but another useable method. They are used to gather information from stakeholders that are located from remote locations. These are also mostly used with those individuals who play minor roles in the overall requirements. The one fall back of this method is that you might not receive information in short amount of time and often requires follow-ups to insure you have received the feedback necessary. Cases are stories that describe a work process. This requires individuals to describe their everyday work process and how the solution works from a user point of view. This may be easier for users to express.
             Brainstorming helps discover requirements that were not spoken of. This is usually the starting point for any project. This requires those involved in the project to sit down and jot down any ideas that are relevant to the current project at hand.
