It takes the student out of their own life and puts them in a perspective that there are millions of others going through things we could only imagine being true. "Students learn universal lessons like the importance of helping their fellow community members when they help feed the homeless or build homes for those who suffered from natural disasters"(Silver Chips Online). Being able to experience such a situation as to feed the homeless can bring a person to the knowledge that not all people just have food handed to them. To see how people are fed such minute amounts of food, and become so grateful for even that amount, that there are people who really have nothing except the clothes on their backs and to become overjoyed at a meal that we get normally really brings light to the fact that we are very privileged. Along with that, to see such events as natural disaster sites, it brings people to awe that families are able to stay so strong after losing so much they have worked for over their lives. It gives you once again a sense of gratitude for not only your family, but all the things you own that maybe you wish you didn't, and just makes you happy that these people are getting new homes that you are lucky enough to take part in building for them. "Students also gain the opportunity to volunteer in fields that interest them, allowing them to experiment with possible career paths to pursue"(Silver Chips Online). Many of those who take part in multiple styles of community service have the ability to see if either: home building, feeding the homeless, working at the animal shelters, or even cleaning up the environment, are any career paths they would enjoy doing. This breaks the barriers of seeing these jobs as minority level jobs for poverty level people and teaches kids that people do these jobs, because they care about what the jobs outcome does for the ones included. They are passionate in their pursuance of showing kindness and that they care for the good of others.
