The Role of a Marketing Executive

In todays world it is increasingly difficult to move along in the daily grind without encountering two things, advertisements and technology. We are inundated every single day with advertisement after advertisement, and the medium for which these are delivered are almost endless. Television, radio, magazines, newspapers, billboards, web advertisements they are quite literally everywhere. And thats nothing to speak of how plugged in we are, between smart phones that are so mobile, laptops, billboards that are now giant TVs on the go. Marketing executives have a multitude of avenues to let us know what is cool and how to spend our money. .
In The Rolling Stone, a widely reputable magazine known for catering to its audience of rock stars and their fans, readers are shown a variety of ads that touch on a rock stars lifestyle which, in this issue, is tobacco, chocolate and alcohol. In this particular June issue, there is an advertisement for Evan Williams Kentucky Bourbon. The ad pictures a large bottle of the spirit, with two glasses about two fingers full each of the liquor. The ad reads Rocks in. Rocks out. Since 1783. The bottom of the ad reads Seriously Good Bourbon next to the recognizable facebook symbol. .
The ad stakes its claim as one of the oldest distilled whiskies and one of the best tasting at that. By proclaiming its heritage of being around since 1783, it is reminding readers who buy this brand or convincing readers who dont, that having been around for so long, Evan Williams knows how to produce a good bourbon. It is obvious that the intended audience here is going to be first and foremost, of drinking age, and secondly, someone into living the rocker lifestyle. Long time Rolling Stone subscribers have probably seen many ads for Evan Williams and would agree that having been around so long, this distillery knows its way around a barrel. However, there would probably be some argument that says whiskey does not a rock star make.
