Food Waste in the UK

The campaign 'Think.Eat.Save' has been used to illustrate that information about food waste is given to the citizens. Other than articles, campaigns and reports, statistics have been used in order to show if and how food waste has improved. These statistics mainly come from a food waste report from FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) written in 2012. Furthermore this chapter has been built on several of the theories we have chosen to use, which are explained in our theory section later on in this project. The theories that we used in this specific chapter are the The Theory of Planned Behaviour and the Informational Social Influence Theory.
             In chapter 3, the activists, our data consists of journals, newspaper articles, books and websites. However, a large part of the information used in this chapter comes directly from the websites of 'WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme)', 'Foodcycle' and 'Feeding the 5000'. These are the three activist organisations we chose to use as examples. Since WRAP is a state funded organisation, we were able to use government funded reports that we feel are trustworthy sources. In the activists chapter we used the Political Process Theory to explain to the reader why activists exist, how they are formed and what elements need to be present in order for them to succeed. In order to find out what the theory states we used an entry from the Blackwell Encyclopedia of Sociology as we found it valid and informative.
             Concepts.
             Through the process of our project we have processed three concepts, which have been the basis for our project. We find that these concepts are covering our entire project. We have used them as a red thread through the process of writing the project in order for us to stay on the right track. We also find it necessary to explain these concepts in order for the reader to understand how we are looking at food waste in the UK.
