I remember coming home to my twin brothers, Malikah and Malik telling them I failed and they told me, " Little sister, you have all the help you need, a good education will equal a good life." .
When I was eleven, my family and I moved to Benicia, CA and I started attending a public school named Benicia Middle School. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Coming from a private school where we wore checkered low knee skirts, buttoned-up shirts that were tucked into our khakis was totally different from what kids wore at Benicia Middle. My first day at Benicia Middle was a total shock. I saw kids running around with brand name jeans, school bells, and even a 6 period school schedule. In junior high school, I knew right from wrong and what my parents wanted from me (which was to study hard); however, I became very independent during this time. I tried to be like every other Benicia kid, such as trying to fit in, going to parties, and even start wearing brand name jeans. Sixth grade came, and I got straight C's due to trying to fit in so much. I had no hope in reading and writing essays so I instantly failed English. I remember my brothers texting me saying," Little sister, we got a full ride scholarship to Florida University!" I was a proud sister, but also a failure sister. I talked to my sister about dropping out as she did and she said," No! Look at your brothers, they are all the help you need, do not give up in whatever you do." The second semester of my sixth grade year ended, and my report card was mailed home. I had no idea what to say or do. My family was very disappointed because the only class I was failing was English, only because I failed writing about "bees" in the fifth grade. My brothers heard about my report card and immediately went to my room and said,"Mikey, what's wrong? We told you before don't give up, you have all the help you need and education equals a good life.
