Apple and Overseas Workers

With the beginning of the second half of the 20th century, a new term was introduced to the society: globalization. What is globalization? Globalization is a process of international desegregation between different countries to exchange ideas, culture, goods, and services. Therefore, it transformed to detached world into a global village. Not only did globalization facilitate transportation and interdependence of cultures, but also it introduced the phenomenon of outsourcing. Outsourcing is the transfer of labor from one country to another in order to produce goods with a low cost. Thus, to maximize the firm's profit. With this idea, we can now say that poor workers who left their countries to provide income to their beloved ones became simple numbers living in bad conditions. Between the cheap salaries they earned and the bad circumstances they were surrounded by the only escape was suicide. YES suicide! Therefore, although outsourcing workers is beneficial to the economy, it is harmful to the society and the manpower. It is harmful because the overseas workers are being treated in an inhumane manner. How? While focusing on Foxconn Company, which is one of Apple Inc. main suppliers, one could notice the tragic events overseas workers suffered from. This is a controversial issue because manufactures claim that workers are not being treated in an inhumane manner. However, I believe that overseas workers for Apple Inc. and Foxconn are working in unbearable and inhumane conditions.
I believe that overseas workers for Apple Inc. and Foxconn are being treated in an inhumane manner for several reasons. First, workers are being placed in stressful working conditions. New York Times reporter once stated that workers were suffering from their executives who used to criticize them and abuse them verbally and physically in order to accomplish a certain order (Barboza,2010). Yes, although we live in the 21st century, workers are still being treated in that manner.
