Policies to Reduce Poverty


            One of the greatest crises our population we face in our great nation and possibly the rest of the world is poverty. Poverty stricken families or individuals live their lives daily dealing with this problem and find it difficult to maintain their livelihood and has disrupted their view on the factors of economy. Society itself has taken a toll into the economic backdrop such as inflation, unemployment, company bankruptcy, government shutdowns and reduction in work hours that have contributed in this predicament. There have been many who have claimed that the easiest course of action to solve poverty is to increase minimum wage, although can the devastating economical tribulation's solution be as simple as raising minimum wage? As promising and rather appealing it may be, there are numerous outlying factors involved in poverty that could render the deed useless and potentially backfire in the economy or aspects making the status worsen for the poor. .
             As days have passed, the times have been harder and have not gotten any easier after the great depression leaving several families in difficult situations that has led many talented and deserving individuals homeless. Reports have shown that poverty rates have been at a high since the depression and reached its highest in 2011 in the United States leading in millions of Americans stricken with this downfall. "Proponents of a higher minimum wage argue that a new wage mandate will help reduce the rate"(Saltsman, 2013) which seems to be a very viable plan. .
             The increase in minimum wage had been attempted by the federal government and multiple states throughout the country attempting to meet the objective of assisting the lowest waged worker in the hopes of fixing the economy and reducing the rates of poverty.
