The Occupation of Alcatraz

            To know more about the important of Thanksgiving Day for Native American and to fulfill the extra credit requirements for class, I went to attend the Sunrise Ceremony of Native American on Thanksgiving Day of 2014 (November 27, 2014) in Alcatraz Island. I got chance to know more about Native American with my eyes. Alcatraz Island is one of the most popular tourist destinations of San Francisco. Alcatraz Island, which is located in the heart of San Francisco, itself signifies lots of cultural and historical aspects bounded by the Bay Area. Alcatraz Island has quite a distinct history. It was a famous for federal prison in San Francisco Bay during the time of 19 century. The island stands on twelve acres of solid rock and therefore was often called "The Rock. It is also popularly known for Native American Independence during the year 1964 and through 1969 to 1971. It was also well known for first lighthouse built in Alcatraz Island in the west coast. In the historical point of view Alcatraz Island has lots of other significance. The island is easily accessible from any where including San Francisco Bay and every one can go their to visit in normal day hour.
             Waking up early in the morning at 4am was exciting. Just had four hours of sleep before the exciting journey started. I bought the ticket for my friends and me a week earlier so that we can get to the island in time. We were so excited to visit the island because of its historical importance and also to watch the Native American sunrise ceremony closely on the day of Thanksgiving. The time we reached there was like 4:30 am. We were not surprised to see that many hundreds of people waiting in line to get to the island. San Francisco is usually windy and cold. The first boat was schedule to leave at 4:45 am. Since we did not get there on time we missed the first boat. The morning was not cold enough which surprised me lot but when we were in the top of boat we feel little cold but the beautiful view of Alcatraz Island and san Francisco city from boat it really get chance to feel beauty of Alcatraz Island and San Francisco.
