Issues in the Workplace

In the workplace there has always been different opinions on what it means to be satisfied or dissatisfied with ones working environment. Many factors play into the workplace which sometimes create conflicts between employers and employees or between employees and cooperation within the working environment. Many writers such as F.J. Roethlisberger, Robert Blauner, Harry Braverman, and Michael Burawoy have theorized and used different ideas and concepts to further explain their beliefs. In this essay I will identify Roethlisberger, Blauner, Braverman, and Burawoy perspective of what they understood about satisfaction, dissatisfaction, conflict, and cooperation. .
             F.J. Roethlisberger.
In Roethlisberger paper "Management and The Worker," there is a common theme of what he believes is job fulfillment. Roethlisberger theorizes that the satisfaction of a job coincides with what he calls "social fulfillment." In his observations what he has discovered is that people feel more fulfilled with their job when they have a healthy socialized environment. The more socialized the person is, the more fulfilled they become. He concluded that the quality and quantity of ones work is directly correlated to the employee's social fulfillment needs.
With social fulfillment and advancement in the workplace came change. This change, whether good or a bad, produced conflict in the workplace. This conflict had all the potential to increase satisfaction of the workers and improve their working environment. The end result to his theory is that change through social fulfillment created a form of conflict in the work environment. .
In Roethlisberger paper he also addressed "social distancing." Social distancing depends on the company you work for and the views your employer has. Some companies think that by being a mean boss or making different social levels relevant, their hierarchy level will be known.
