I Believe in Hope

I believe in understanding and accepting who you are. Everyone has flaws or certain traits we do not seem to like when we look at our reflections. Most of us are insecure because of what outsiders may think of us. We then choose to hide from who we are. If we all just took a moment, and told ourselves that no one is perfect and there is someone with that same exact flaw, I wonder if then we will find that we are all okay. There are times we need to understand, imperfections are a part of being human and acceptance of our imperfections will result in positive outcomes in our everyday life. We have to understand, this is how we were born and accept how we were created. Our differences are the uniqueness that defines us and allows us to stand out.
No one is perfect and no one was made to be perfect. People might question, "What does imperfection mean and why does it exist?" Imperfections are flaws that everyone has and makes each person distinctive from others. I am a perfect example of being imperfect. I am proud of being a little different. That is what makes me unique. That is what makes everyone unique. I did not always have a true understanding of who I was. As a young girl, I always was aware of my imperfections, but I was never okay with them or myself. Watching the teen celebrities on television, I tried to be just like them. Competing with every girl around me, I tried so hard to be who I wasn't. Every day, I looked for something to be wrong with me; my crooked smile, my puffy hair, and the fact that everyone in my family was dark skinned except for me constantly got under my skin. "You are adopted," that is all I heard daily, and it hurt so badly although I knew it was not true. Growing up, I believed there was so much wrong with me. Between having dyslexia, a bipolar disorder, and every time turning around, being told something else was wrong with me by a different doctor or therapist, it got to the point where I just wanted to quit on everything in my life.
