Crime Comparison Paper

Uniform Crime Reports are a system that the FBI utilizes for reporting crimes. The UCR is broken down as to what type of crime, where the crime occurred, when the crime occurred, as well as who performed the crime, along with much more information. If it is done accurately, it will give an accurate guide to the crimes committed and the areas to which they were committed. If done and reported correctly, it will also show where the most crime happens and give sight to areas needing more police presence. I will show the violent crimes in Dallas, Texas compared to the violent crimes in San Antonio, Texas as well as the population of both areas. .
Dallas's population in 2010 was 1,197,833, while San Antonio's population was 1,327,605 in 2010. The breakdown of the population was Dallas: Whites 50.7%, San Antonio: Whites 72.6%, Dallas: Black or African American 25.0%, San Antonio: Black or African American 6.9%, Dallas: American Indian and Alaskan Native .7%, San Antonio: American Indian and Alaskan Native .9%, Dallas: Asian 2.9%, San Antonio: Asian 2.4%, Dallas: Two or more races 2.6%, San Antonio: Two or more races 3.4%, Dallas: Hispanic or Latino 42.4%, San Antonio: 63.2%, and Dallas: White not Hispanic or Latino 28.8%, San Antonio: White not Hispanic or Latino 63.2%. United States Census Bureau. (n.d.) .
Even though San Antonio had a much higher population rate than Dallas, looking at the Uniform Crime Reporting Statistics for Dallas and San Antonio shows that Dallas had more reported crimes and higher violent crime incidents. Dallas reported 9,161 violent crimes in 2010 while San Antonio only reported 546 in 2010. This shows me that either the crime rate was very low in San Antonio or the crimes went unreported by the Community or Police Departments. If I just pull up San Antonio alone on the Uniform Crime Report, the actual number is 8,434 that San Antonio reported vs. the report from Bexar County. This number is more in line with the Dallas figures.
