Four Important Men in American History

There were many important men in history of America, for example Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Thomas Paine, and Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Hobbes was an English philosopher, best known today for his work on political philosophy. His 1651 book Leviathan established social contract theory. John Locke was an English philosopher and physician regarded as one of the most influential of Enlightenment thinkers. Thomas Paine was an American and English political activist, philosopher, political theorist and revolutionary. He is most for famous for Common Sense. Thomas Jefferson was an American Founding Father, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence (1776), and the third President of the United States (1801–1809). The purpose of government is to provide a system in which individuals give a portion of their freedom in order to pursue needs and wants without the fears that are inherent in a state of anarchy. These four very important men had different views on the government and how the people should be controlled by the government.
Thomas Hobbes has a very famous quote from The Leviathan which is " the life of man solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. The condition of man is a condition of war of everyone against everyone." In this quote he argues that the natural state of man is war. This means that without any civil government people are not safe and will fight with each other. The Red Scare is the promotion of fear of a potential rise of communism or radical leftism, used by anti-leftist proponents. In the United States, the First Red Scare was about worker (socialist) revolution and political radicalism. The most important government response was the beginning of the Palmer Raids. Prisoners were questioned without access to attorneys and their bail was often set so high none could afford it. Many were beaten during their arrest or questioning. The raids were initially highly praised by the public and press.
