The Making of a Hero

A hero is someone who can transform compassion into heroic action. In doing so, they put their best selves forward, and are able to overcome even the most painstaking tasks. A hero doesn't have to be one person, it can be a network of people all with a common goal in mind. This person or people must have certain qualities that enable them to see the world in a different way. They must be brave and stand up to people no one else will. They have to take charge of what's going on in their communities. A hero is someone who has honor, integrity, is a good friend and a problem solver. They don't have to be rich or famous, they can simply be your Grandpa. .
A hero is someone who listens and not only hears what you say, but sometimes what you don't say. They are there for you when your world gets knocked out from under you, every time you lose your grip on life. They grab your hand when you reach out for help and they hold on and pull you back into the light. They are brave and fearless and stand up to the biggest of bullies. They never let you down. They try so hard to see others happy, maybe they can't fix everything, maybe the laws are not there, but they try, and that counts for something. They are always on your side, they laugh with you, and cry with you, and sometimes just sit with you and say nothing. They set the example you want to live your life by. I consider my Aunt Jen and Uncle Steve my hero's, they were there for me, my sister, and my cousin when our real parents left us behind for the more important drugs in their life. They are everything mentioned and go above and beyond for five children to have the best possible chance at life. On the road we were headed down before I doubt we would have made it past twenty-five without hard drugs in our lives. Every time I have gotten myself into trouble, big or small they are always their waiting for me to realize my mistake and help me work through it, no matter what.
