Mexican Economy and Infrastructure

The state of Mexico is one of the 32 federal entities that comprise Mexico. Located in South-Central Mexico, the State of Mexico is the most populated and condensed state. The government has done a great job to improve the public sector but not all areas of the public sector have benefitted equally, the public education sector being one of them. Mexico is slightly improving in the public education sector but still remains one of the worst ranking countries in the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) in regards to education. According to Better Life Index, Mexico is one of the lowest scoring countries in reading, literacy, maths and science (Education). Better Life Index is a website that looks at the well-being of countries that are part of OECD. Better Life Index is designed to let you visualize the key factors that contribute to the well-being of a country such as: education, housing, community, income, and many more. Looking at the results gathered by OECD, it can be seen that major improvement is needed in Mexico's education sector. .
Mexico scored 417 out of 600, much lower than the average of 497(Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development). Many factors could be leading to these low scores such as: poor infrastructure, inefficient teaching methods, and problems outside of school. Out of all these factors, poor infrastructure is one that could easily be improved on with government funding. Poor infrastructure fails to create an atmosphere that enables students to perform and learn at their highest level (Agren, David). The Studies have shown that improved infrastructure improves test scores within students. Implementations of things like libraries, computer labs, or scientific labs increase test scores in reading and mathematics (Severin, Eugenio). This shows the necessity to have improved infrastructure within all public schools in the State of Mexico.
