Kathy also expressed that religion is very important to her as she comes from a Christianity background and believes in the power of prayer. She wants her children to grow up with God in their life, she feels this will help guide them in the right direction and provide a healthy relationship in the family.
             B. What Rituals or ceremonies are conducted in your family?.
             Kathy celebrates Easter, Christmas, birthdays, New Years, Thanksgiving and Fourth of July. She didn't point out anything different from the way many of us celebrate these holidays. Baby showers however are held after the baby is born so that they are definite on the sex of the baby and can ensure baby gets the proper clothing. The thing that was different about baby how she celebrates baby showers is guest are given a bag with goodies and salt. She could not remember what the salt in the bags symbolized. Some of the rituals she identified were very interesting and different in her Navajo culture she was raised with the ritual of the medicine man. The medicine man would come to the house of an ill person and provide them with herbs to help cure the illness. This also involved a gathering of people on the reservation to form a circle and sing all night (they also did this for blessings). One of the traditional rituals that she experienced made me feel proud to have had the privacy I did in such an embarrassing time. .
             "Becoming a woman" as Kathy described it, is a seven day ritual. When a young lady starts her menstrual cycle they have a series of events that happen, the first day she became a woman she had to tell her mom. Her mom then informs the father and everyone on the reservation. Before sunrise she is dressed in traditional clothing such as, moccasins, hair in bun and turquoise jewelry. After she is dressed she has to run around the reservation or wherever her parents tell her to run with a train of people following her.
