For all of these reasons, the RU Sober Program will be an asset to undergraduate students at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. .
The problem here at Rutgers University is that there is no program established that offers students positive activities on the weekend which leads to students going out, partying, and abusing alcohol. If Rutgers University were to plan something that students had interest in, then they would be less inclined to go out and party and more inclined to have fun with their friends in a regulated social environment. In the long run, alcohol abuse leads to poor academics which reflects poorly on Rutgers University. According to Ukwayi, "Alcohol abuse cut-short the academic vision of colleges and universities and may undermine their aspiration of molding future citizens. Heavy drinking (binge drinking) can lead to a decline in the overall academic performance of an institution of higher education" (Ukwayi 414). The decline in academic performance will cause the overall reputation of the university to suffer. The population that will benefit from this will be the undergraduate students at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. According to Rutgers University 2012-2013 Fact Book, currently in the New Brunswick Campus, the undergraduate full time student population is 30,038 (OIRAP 9). The undergraduate part time student population is 1,555 (OIRAP 9). In total, the undergraduate population is 31,095 (OIRAP 9). This Program will be available for all students, both commuter students and students that live on campus. The undergraduate population at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey will benefit tremendously from the RU Sober Program.
The plan to resolve this problem at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is called the RU Sober Program. This program will allow students to establish a fun social life on campus without the need to drink alcohol or consume other illicit substances.
