Self-Esteem, Beauty and Advertising

Have you ever not felt beautiful enough to be seen in the public? Then watch a few ads on television or the internet, and you'll see why you aren't pretty enough. You must've be doing it wrong all along because you aren't buying every piece of clothing, makeup, and accessory that obviously makes someone stunning. Advertisements give me that vibe every time I get the proud opportunity to watch one. Someone should feel offended when a commercial comes on telling you to buy something to make you feel prettier, and this tells the consumer you're not good enough normally and won't be accepted by the society we live in today. The main part of your brain an advertisement would focus on is your emotional side. This feeling of not feeling beautiful enough works on more of the females than males, but they attract the male population in different ways; depending on what the product may be. On the male side of advertising, companies use more sexual themes and ideas. This forces a thought to come to your head saying you need a product to enhance your appeal to women, or a product making you a complete stud to society. Self-esteem is drastically lowered throughout the watching of these ads, and thus making the consumer more oriented towards buying the product. .
As a result, most women don't feel beautiful enough to go out of their homes without applying a beastly amount of makeup. Women look up to their fellow females on advertisements and see how stunning they are, and the ad's reasoning behind their beauty is because of their products. In today's society technology can play a vital role in changing an average human into a flawless, "ad worthy," person in a limited amount of time. What most people don't realize is that the person in the magazine or on the television advertisement is enhanced by technology and a ruthless amount of makeup, camera angles, and lighting. It's just like when your burger at McDonalds is mediocre looking compared to the billboard ad you saw driving down the highway.
