Self-Esteem, Beauty and Advertising

They use paint, fake food, and camera angles to make it look that divine, just like what they do to women or men to make them "beautiful" or "sexy" in advertisements. This is mainly geared towards women, and is shown to affect their feelings towards how they see themselves. Men can be affected by this too; personally I was obsessed with going to the gym for a long time because I would see all these girls on television and the internet go for guys with excellent muscle tone. As an example, there is a magazine ad for Guess clothing lines, and there is a male and a female very close together in the picture. The female has a hand on the male's washboard abs, and this is telling us that females, like the one in the ad, are attracted to guys that have washboard abs. Maybe this explains the phenomenon of people going to the gym, not to be healthy, but to attempt to gain some muscle geared towards the advancement of women liking you, and the same goes for females. I've talked to a few ladies that just do squats, because they are trying to get a "bigger ass" in the likelihood of finding a better male suitor. This emotion stimulates in the watching of ads, thus supporting my theory because they've probably been watching Nicki Minaj's music videos, or they've at least seen an advertisement for the album. .
I would like to mention a Dove ad titled "The Evolution of Beauty." In this short video it shows a normal, already attractive, female subject going in to be on a billboard advertisement for some makeup company. The employees of this makeup company start off by adding makeup by the truckload to her face, and then finishing it off with styling her hair, by what looks like experts. What really tops off the way she looks on the billboard is when they go into editing software and start to completely change her facial structure and any imperfections that are left after the makeup, and hair being done.
