McDonald's Global Empire

McDonald's golden arches are a symbol of a great American empire, larger than the Romans. "This corporation began its expansion in 1953, with the introduction of their third McDonald's restaurants. It was the second to be in the franchise created by Richard and Maurice McDonald. It is located in Downey, California, and is virtually unchanged since then, (Oldest McDonald's restaurant, 2014). Present day, the golden arches can be seen from Indonesia to Chili, from London to Seattle, from Los Angeles to India, there is only a few countries that have banned the fast-food chain from infesting its people," (Oldest McDonald's restaurant, 2014). "Supporters of globalization, may feel this is exactly what the world needs. On the other side, anti-globalization supporters think this is a disgusting way to reach the furthest depths of the world population," (Lance, 2010). This fast-food corporation reaches customers wherever they may travel and offers the enjoyment of an efficiently made, American hamburger, American fries, and a Coca-Cola in about just as much time as it takes to order it. Although many of the foods are comprised of toxic chemicals (preservatives, trans fats, sugars, sodium phosphates) and the restaurant poses a growing threat to native cultures, McDonald's has done a splendid job at adapting to diverse cultures, have been cost effective in maintaining big name suppliers, and have also created a worldwide following for generations to come.
Almost every person who has ever watched a McDonald's commercial can reiterate the slogan phrase, "I'm loving it!" (Lance, 2010). The question is, "What is to love?" Is it the grease filled fries that never lose its color even after many years of sitting out? Or the hamburgers made from the beef bi-product loaded with chemicals to retain its freshness? Or could it be the chicken nuggets that are ground into a paste and then squeezed into a shape to have consistent presentation throughout every McDonald's in the world, (Lehmann, 2003)? It's definitely not attractive to talk about it, but the addiction to the fast-food is prevalent throughout many household.
