Even though FGM is considered dangerous and ludicrous, people do it for reasons that fulfills their lifestyle. There are numerous of reasons why FGM exist. It is a very important practice for those who believe in it. They feel that FGM is basically a need and that women have to get it done. That is why people think FGM is a good thing and that is why they think FGM is beneficial.
Women who tend to get FGM done suffers major or minor health risks. In the article, Female genital cutting fact sheet, it states, "FGC can cause a range of health problems, both short term and long term. The kinds of problems that develop depend upon the degree of the cutting" (Unknown 1). Women who has had this procedure done will be prone to health problems long term or short term. This procedure can really damage the way a woman's body is supposed to be. In the article FGM it states, "Immediate complications can include severe pain, shock, hemorrhage (bleeding), tetanus or sepsis (bacterial infection), urine retention, open sores in the genital region and injury to nearby genital tissue. Long-term consequences can include: recurrent bladder and urinary tract infections, cysts, infertility; an increased risk of childbirth complications and newborn deaths; the need for later surgeries" (Unknown 2).
