Independence of Canada During WWI


            During World War One, Canada experienced many tragedies and successes that influenced Canada to become an independence nation internally and externally. This independency helped evolve Canada towards modernization. World War One had a tremendous impact on Canada of establishing its independence. Firstly, the battle of Vimy Ridge that took place on April 9th through April 12th of 1917 brought Canada to fight together as a whole. Secondly, women were treated fairly and were given equal rights that contributed Canada politically. Lastly, the Treaty of Versailles proved that Canada had independence. .
             The victory of Vimy Ridge is a significant event for Canada. The battle of Vimy Ridge started the progress to full independence from Britain. Vimy Ridge showed that Canada as a nation did not need to rely on Britain to assist Canada. Canada's victory over Vimy Ridge demonstrated that Canada is able to win major battles without the help of other nations. Brigadier General Alexander Ross said: "It was Canada from the Atlantic to the Pacific on parade. I thought then that in those few minutes I witnessed the birth of a nation." This proved that Canada had established themselves as a self-sustaining nation and not only a part of Britain. Although more than ten thousand six hundred were killed and wounded throughout the four days of the battle of overtaking Vimy Ridge, Vimy Ridge is now seen as a significant symbol towards Canada. Vimy Ridge is now recognized as the area where Canadians from all over the country supported and contributed. This battle gave Canada an opportunity to bond and have a connection together as a nation. Ultimately, the victory of Vimy Ridge verified that Canada was a strong nation and it was the first step in Canada's pathway to independence. .
             Women played an important role during World War One that resulted in improving Canada politically. Women did jobs once performed by men like factories and many more jobs.
