Police and the Blue Wall of Silence

Police brutality is a dicey topic that needs not to be ignored. Issues of police brutality are prominent in today's day and age not only because of the media's need to create a story out of everything mildly out of the ordinary, but also because there are many police officers in today's force that still have not accepted the ideas of racial equality. Many aspects about the way the police force is run, the media, and the criminal justice system in the United States perpetuate this issue. Despite its work relief elements and large government programs, police sometimes still are corrupt. Police brutality is an issue that is never acceptable because it is neither legal nor moral.
In this instance of police brutality, two high-ranking officers were caught on camera assaulting a criminal unnecessarily brutally. The criminal tries to reach for an officer's gun. Soon after, both officers struck the suspect and beat him to the ground. They continue to strike him even after they handcuff him and his body appears limp. The video shows the two officers striking, kicking, punching, and seemingly even spitting on the young man. While reaching for an officer's gun is against the law and punishable by such, the officers had no reason or defense for beating this man as shown in this incriminating piece of evidence. .
Situations such as these are snowflakes that build the avalanche that is police brutality today. Policemen are typically very close and are known to maintain a "blue wall of silence." As discussed in class, the "blue wall of silence" is an unwritten code of conduct between policemen in which unspoken vows are taken to refuse to testify against one another as a witness in honor of the loyalty each has for his or her peers. This aggravates the problem because there are usually few eyewitnesses and those that are eyewitnesses are generally police officers. Additionally, this allows corrupt cops to stay in the system and remain crooked.
