Disputing the Second Amendment


The people that are affected by these regulations are felons, domestic-violence offenders, controlled-substance addicts, and also the mental defective. For law abiding citizens, there should be no problem with the current regulations.
             Private-party gun sales need the same regulations as licensed dealers. The reason for this is because private-party gun sales do not require screenings or backgrounds checks. This allows an easy way for criminals to get firearms. To buy guns from a dealer, you must show identification, certify that you are buying the gun for yourself, and also do background checks to confirm that the individual is allowed to buy guns. With private-party gun sales, none of the procedures and safeguards apply. They are anonymous and undocumented. "Some 85% of all guns used in crimes and then recovered by law-enforcement agencies have been sold at least once by private parties"2. Also, that "83% of self-reported gun owners and 87% of the general population endorsed regulations for all private-party gun sales."2 show public support be hide the regulation.              Adding more regulations to gun control will not help public safety. The presence of guns are increasing greatly as time goes on. With new technology and more production of guns, the Second Amendment dispute is becoming a larger debate. In 2000, the United States had 259 million firearms possessed by civilians.1 In 2009, the number of firearms had increased to 310 million.1 With more guns on the streets, it may be seen as a concern to the public safety; however, "the number of legal guns in private hands went up by a third, while the number of firearm-related crimes dropped by 74 percent.
