Parent Separation and the Impact on Children

I was a child that came from parents who were separated, it affected my wellbeing. I had trouble getting along with others in school, and I still have problems trusting people, because I have the fear of them leaving me just like my parents. The child is affected with loss from the parent, fear of losing another parent, anger towards both parents about the relationship breakdown, constant worry about causing the parent's separation, guilt towards the separation, rejection, insecurity and torn between both parents (Divorce or Separation of Parents). The child's response to the separation may be worse depending on the age of the child, level of understanding, and support from family and friends (Rogers, B., & Pryor, J.). If a couple separates and has one or more children together, the children suffer from social, emotional, and physical problems (Divorce or Separation of Parents).
A child needs to have both parents in its life (Rogers, B., & Pryor, J.). A child that is separated from one or both of the parents might go through a lot of psychiatric problems such as insecurity, guilt and anger (Divorce or Separation of Parents). A child should be able to trust their family especially their parents, therefore the child needs to have security between the two parents or the two houses (Divorce or Separation of Parents). The child is often affected with guilt towards the separation (Divorce or Separation of Parents). The child needs to realize that he or she was not responsible for the separation; it was the parent's problems with each other (Divorce or Separation of Parents). The child often also feels anger towards the parents for ruining the family (Divorce or Separation of Parents). A key to the separation of parents is to make sure the child still knows that he or she is loved and still able to talk to both the parents about everything (Divorce or Separation of Parents).
The child also might feel lost, different with an unfamiliar family, and torn between both parents (Divorce or Separation of Parents).
