Children and War

Millions of children worldwide are affected by armed conflict. They are confronted with physical harm, violence, danger, exploitation, fear and loss. Many children are forced to escape, some witness the death of loved one and some are forced to pull the trigger themselves. Communities are ripped apart and can no longer provide a secure environment for children. Adults are busy surviving; parents have little time for their children. Schools and playgrounds are damaged or taken over by armed groups. During war, children rights are violated on a very huge range; their rights to be protected from violence, abuse and neglect, to live in dignity and be supported to develop to their full potential. As a consequence of war, children can lose their confidence, their trust in others and their trust in the future. They often become anxious, depressed, withdrawn, rebellious and aggressive because of what they experience during the war. .
There is a lot to talk about when it comes to effects of war on children. I would like to introduce few areas that are very important and considerably worse experiences that children pass through during the hard time of war. Some of the areas I will be talking about in this paper as effects of war on children are: death, injury, disability, illness, rape and prostitution, psychological suffering, social and culture loss and child soldier. Children have been victims of war all around the globe. As a result of war, I will be giving my own experience on how war has impacted my brother and me as children. We grew up in war zone therefore; we were displaced until we finally became refugees in a foreign country. War has shown us a different side of the world leaving us with no parents. I have learned not to share secrets or trust anyone just because of the negatives results of the war. As little girl, I went days and weeks with no showering because there was not sufficient water to drink, shower and cook.
