"Chaos was first of all, but next appeared Broad-bosomed Earth, ()." (Thury 31) In the creation by Hesiod, Earth was depicted as a women which means that they understood the major role of women and how important they are since earth is basically the only land where humans can survive. They also feared women because of their clever plans and drive for vengeance and jealousy. "But she, Vast Earth, being strained and stretched inside her, groaned. And then she thought of a clever, evil plan."(Thury 32) In the myth, there are several parts where the women are the ones that invent evil plans for revenge, and the gods such as Kronos and Zeus were able to overthrow their fathers only because they also had the help of their mother. In the Creation, Hesiod also shows a certain fear towards women since they were the ones able to produce monsters such as Cyclopes and the Hundred Armed. For Hesiod, it seemed that he had the idea that women could be very destructive and should be feared. "Aphrodite is the irresistibly attractive embodiment of the sexual urge, and even when she seems an obvious good she retains a destructive potential. Hesiod, in fact, associates the sexual act with pain and certain loss of control ;()."(Marquardt 283) On another hand, Hesiod also understands that women were very compassionate and had strong emotions that meant that they had the courage to do anything for their family. "Rhea suffered endless grief; but when she was about to bring forth Zeus, Father of gods and men, she begged the Earth and starry Heaven, her parents, to devise a plan ()." (Thury 35) In the myth of Hesiod, mothers kept doing this over and over again for their children including Earth, Rhea and many others. Lastly, in the myth, Hesiod also shows that women are intelligent and can aid the male very well. "() But Zeus, forestalling danger, put her down into his belly, so that the goddess could counsel him in both good and evil plans.
