These articles contrast with concrete evidence and different ideologies, however in my opinion, liberalism is the best ideology to manage the inequality in our society.
In Divided We Stand: Why Inequality Keeps Rising by OECD states that the gap between rich and poor had been growing in OECD countries and that inequality has become a universal concern with policy makers and societies. Inequality is unavoidable, however, policy makers can make changes to make sure that the gap between the poor and the rich does not increase. Policy makers must pay close attention to this gap because as stated in the article, if the income inequality rises, it creates economic, social and political challenges. The OECD suggests that investing in human capital is the policy maker's best option as they can provide freely accessible and high-quality public services, such as education, health and family care. There are people in society who cannot focus on education and health because they only earn enough to cover their basic needs. Through this suggestion, they can not only cover their basic needs but focus on important things such as education to be applicable for better jobs and contribute to the society which fits in my view as it is stated in the liberalism ideology "social entitlements are respected, including a certain standard of living and access to decent education, health care and accommodation" (Turner & Turner, 28). This article is proof as to why investing in human capital and creating opportunities is the best way to make sure the gap between the poor and the rich does not increase. The inequality in society is eternal, but, through more workers with higher skills, we could have a more educated society and a stronger economy. .
In The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better by Richard Wilkinson & Kate Pickett follows the socialism ideology and focuses on the negative lifestyle of the people living in poverty.
