The Dark Knight Trilogy

In 2005, Christopher Nolan created the Dark Knight Trilogy, which forever changed the way that superheroes are perceived on screen. Starting then, superheroes on screen would be grounded in reality and actually set precedents for Marvel to follow in their films. Many folks believed that this was the savior of not only the character Batman, but for DC films as a whole. In 2008, Marvel Studios released Iron Man, the first of many films that would create a connected universe between superheroes and their franchises. This universe would be known as the MCU or Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ever since, Marvel has been reigning in the success of their superhero movies with little competition from their main adversary, DC Comics, whose only successful superhero have been the Dark Knight films. With a plethora of failed superhero films under their belt such as Superman Returns, Green Lantern, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, it was a wonder if DC would ever be able to have as much cinematic success as Marvel. Then, in 2012, Marvel released The Avengers, which was the long awaited team up of all of Marvel's on screen heroes. This made DC look like ants under a magnifying glass, leaving the whole world wondering what their cinematic retaliation would be. In a rushed decision, DC and Warner Bros spliced together the two directors of their most recent and successful films; Christopher Nolan of the Dark Knight Trilogy and Zack Snyder of Watchmen, under the rouse that they would create their own hero-conjoined cinematic universe starting with a reboot of Superman. The resulting film was received tepidly by the fans. .
In June of 2013, Warner Brothers released Man of Steel with Christopher Nolan as the producer and Zack Snyder behind the director's chair. While the film technically did well at the box office, a lot of the fans expressed a major dislike of the film, with many of the fans' complaints spawning from the direction of Zack Snyder, who is no stranger to criticism.
