Some images come to be inherent parts of a culture's self-description and definition.3.
As an aviator, Saint-Exupery has a deep understanding of loneliness, friendship and difficulties. Therefore, he resorts to writing to explore the loneliness deep in heart. 4The Little Prince started the plot from the author's memory of childhood. The masterpiece of the author in his childhood was a picture of a boa (a type of snake) constrictor digesting an elephant. In western culture, the Christian characterization of the snake and its identification with the Devil is quite apparent in the story of the fall of man in the Bible. 5Therefore, snake has symbolic meaning of evil, tricking and slick. In Christian symbolism the elephant is an icon of temperance, patience, and chastity. 6I believe that our patience, even chastity have been steadily eroded with money, fame, position when we grow in these modern days, like an elephant is being digested by a boa. We often think about how many marks we obtain, but we forget the process we have passed; We often concern about how much money we earn, but we forget about the satisfaction of the job; We often care about how much inch of the screen of our smartphone, but we forget to look upon the sky to count how many stars in the sky. Time goes by, we gradually lost our patience about our life. When we grow into an adult, the distance between the child who live in the deepest place of our heart become far and far, such as the adult who did not recognize the picture in the story.
When we intend to analysis the story, we should know about the main character. There are two main characters in this story, the author, who is an aviator, and the little prince. The aviator is a lonely adult, and the little prince is a mysterious and cute child. They met at the Sahara occasionally, and started a journey of heart. Desert is pure, simple and clean, here is no conflicts, no war, no temptation of money, it is a paradise that isn't polluted by human beings, it is a place where one can be purified in heart.
