King felt that the blacks were also supposed to be given an opportunity to become better people. He believed that everybody including his own kids were equal and were supposed to have a better future. During his time, the color of one's skin dictated the type of a person somebody was and not their character. The people were judged by their color, boundaries were created on where they could tread and where not to tread, the schools they could attend and the ones they were not supposed to attend. Due to this inequality, Luther narrates how he had to suffer through his education just to become what he wanted. He succeeded though, but it is quite discouraging as one struggles over the bumps. It is quite unfortunate that even today there is a challenge of inequality in the education sector portrayed in one way or the other. When students apply for colleges and higher learning centers, the minority groups of students also tender their applications but end up being disappointed due to the racial preferences which are given to the majority groups - the minority get disappointments instead. As these students work, the white students still have the feelings that they should be accorded protection in a special way. To understand and create complete equality in education, we need the philosophy of the affirmative action (Halimm, 241).
The racial issue has always been a vital issue when it comes to giving an approach to democracy in the United States. John F. Kennedy published a document on affirmative action, which was aimed at the increase of certain representation of the minority groups and women in every area where it was felt they had been ignored. The affirmative action is currently being applied in the education field to aid the promotion of the minority groups in the higher learning institutions. To improve the education sectors, especially in the higher levels of education, priority should be accorded to the minority groups anytime both groups apply for the courses within these institutions of learning; this will provide equal chances between the minority and the majority groups, or even provide the minority with an advantage.
