Social, political, and economic success should not be gender specific.S has taken many steps to enforce this form of equality with the constitutional amendment that allowed women the right to vote, the Equal Pay Act which attempted to abolish wage disparity, and the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade where women were granted the option of first term abortions. As we progress through the twenty- first century, American women have virtually the same liberties as men. However, feminists of both genders have taken an aggressive and sometimes counter-productive approach to eradicate the few outliers that remain. Some elements of the movement extend past logical boundaries and constrict the rights of men. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and the link that is holding back gender equality is feminism. The people of the United States should abandon feminism to benefit future generations.
The international definition of feminism is "the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities" (Merriam-Webster). I have found that in America, feminists have primarily advocated for female benefits. There is a famous quote from the television show Friends where the character Rachel tells her partner, "No uterus, no opinion" (Kelly). She meant to imply that men could not understand the pain of pregnancy (specifically Braxton Hicks contractions). Internet feminists have extended the objective of the phrase to include all aspects of pregnancy. An anonymous blogger demonstrates the general consensus feminists have on abortion with the post "as my body is not your body, you are not entitled to tell me how to use my body. So basically, for me, it goes more like this: If it's not YOUR uterus, it's none of your f****** business" (proabortion5eva).
When a man and a woman practice consensual sexual relations and a pregnancy occurs, it is solely the woman's decision on the outcome of the child.
