The Whale Watching Trip

Everyone has a day that they wish they could have back. I have had days that would shock some, and inspire others, especially in the Marine Corps. July 4th, 2008, is a prime example of how chaotic a day with me can be. What started off as a planned trip to Huntington Beach for whale watching; and ended with a shocking memory. That was a nice way to celebrate my Fourth of July. I was asked to go whale watching with some Marines in my squadron. We were based in sunny southern California, on Marine Corps Station Camp Pendleton. The group that we had going with us was small party of five. Bethany, Eric, John, Chris, and I were going to heading to Huntington Beach to meet our tour boat, The Calm Dew; but nothing about this trip was calm. .
The car ride there was full of life and joy. We sped up the I-5, music was being blasted, heads were nodding, and we were having fun and acting up like young adults. It didn't take long to reach our destination, which left us with some sometime to kill before the boat departed. We decided to enter a local Chili's, which was located on the boardwalk corner so we could see the dock. While in Chili's, we decide to have some drinks. At this point, Chris and Bethany, who used to share a romantic relationship, begin to argue. All of us there knew that this scenario could happen. Chris was an aggressive brat, who sulks when his way is not followed, and Bethany was known for being feisty. It was just a matter of time before they clashed. Thankfully, John stepped in between them and put an end to the squabbling. Their little spat entertained me and passed the time waiting for the boat very quickly. .
Finally, it was time to board the boat. As the Calm Dew sailed away from the coastline, I noticed Bethany, Chris, and Eric drinking more and more; so John and I decided not to drink and look after this obnoxious group. Within the first hour of our cruise, the captain directed our attention to the sides of the ship.
