The Influence of Islam on Europe


            If Islam's "Golden Age" had never existed, then Europe would have been a continent in chaos. In today's world, it is often forgotten how much Islam has fundamentally impacted and changed our lives. In fact, Islam has given Europe architecture, medicine, math, astronomy, music, art and literature. These disciplines encompass all the important aspects of our society and everyday lives. When studying the details of the Islamic contribution to European society over the last millennium, it is easy to understand its vast influence and will leave no one unmoved.
             It is clear that without Islam's extraordinary methods and translations Europe would have. As Islam grew many educated people decided to translate the work from Greek genuses. One very noticeable translator was Hunayn Ibn Ishaq. He lived in the 9th C.E and many of his translations can be found in almost every public library around the world. He translated the writings of Galen, Dioscorides and Aristotle. One of his most impressive translations were the De Materia de Medica. The book was originally written by a Greek named Dioscorides, who is the founder of herbal medicine. Humayun translated it into Arabic. This look then came to Europe when it was translated into latin. Islam also created paper. During Islam's expansionist period (610 - 1450) at Talis river Islamic forces won the battle and captured two Chinese papermakers. This allowed Islamic written knowledge to be efficiently transported and mass produced also this made paper books stronger than the paper they used before. Another example of an influence is the book "A thousand and one nights." The book is a large amount of stories. These stories were written in the Arabic language. One special series of stories called "Sinbad the sailor" this influenced Jonathan Swift to write the story Gulliver and his travels also William Shakespeare was inspired to write his masterpiece "Othello.
