An Ethical Dilemma at Coca-Cola


In 1941, America entered World War ll. Thousands of men and women were sent overseas to help fight in the war. The Coca-Cola Company them and Woodruff ordered that every man or woman gets a bottle of Coca-Cola for 5 cents. In 1943, General Dwight D Eisenhower sent an urgent cablegram to Coca-Cola, requesting shipment of materials for 10 bottling plants. During the war, many people from all over the world had got to drink Coca-Cola for the first time and when peace finally came, the foundations were laid for Coca-Cola to do business overseas. In 20 years, the numbers of countries with bottling operations nearly doubled. After 70 years of success with one brand, Coca-Cola, the company decided to expand on their flavors and introduced Fanta in the 1950s, sprite followed in 1961, with TAB in 1963 and Fresca in 1966. In 1981, Diet Coke was introduced into the market. Within two years, it would become the top low calorie drink in the world, second in success only to Coca-Cola. .
             They continued to grow over the years with the strengthening of association with ongoing support of the Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup football, the Rugby World Cup and the National Basketball Association. From just starting out selling nine drinks per day, Coca-Cola has grown to be the world's most universal brand, with more than 1.7 billion beverage servings sold each day from any of their 400 plus brands. 3.1% of all beverages consumed around the world today are Coca-Cola products. Coca-Cola mission is to refresh the world- in mind, body and spirit, to inspire moments of optimism- though our brands and actions and to create value and make a difference everywhere we engage. A big way they helped make a difference was, in 2009, when the company launched "Live Positively". Live Positively includes goals for providing and tailoring beverages for every lifestyle, supporting active, healthy living programs, building sustainable communities, reducing and recycling their packaging, cutting our carbon emissions, establishing a sustainable water operation an creating a safe, inclusive work environment for all.
