Business Communications in Moneyball

No matter what kind of organization you encounter, there are always different aspects of business communications happening. Moneyball is the story of Billy Beane, the General Manager for the Oakland Athletics, and his quest to beat the current system of baseball, in which money is everything when it comes to winning a World Series. He gets help from Pete Brand, a recent Economics graduate for Yale. Pete develops a system in which players are evaluated through extreme statistics calculations that determine how much value each player represents for their current salary. When the new system goes into place, scouts are upset with Billy, as he throws away all their input for the new system. This creates conflict within the Oakland Athletics organization, and Billy is on the spotlight as the season unravels. .
The Oakland Athletics begin the season off to a rocky start. There is disagreement among the coaches and staff and Billy's job is deemed to be in possible danger. After making a few debatable trades after an argument with the manager, the media begins to scrutinize Billy's style of management. Everyone believes the system is a complete failure and that there would be a new general manager come next season. His family starts to become concerned, and Billy is on the brink. The Oakland Athletics finally come together towards the mid-late half of the season and begin to make a playoff push. That playoff push soon turns into an incredible 20 game win streak. The team that Billy created using a system that was inconsistent with the usual methods of scouting had created the perfect team. Their luck eventually runs out however, and they lose in the playoffs once again. The narrator then reminds the audience that baseball is not just a game of numbers. There is more to the game than just batting averages and ERA's. There is a lot of heart and non-statistical factors always at play during a baseball game.
