Globalization has brought many opportunities and challenges to different countries all around the world. Globalization has brought change throughout the years and, it has developed new business, tools, and the way people think and do things. The free market has had us connect with other cultures and come to an understanding of the needs we have. In the book, The Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy by Pietra Rivoli, Rivoli goes on to track the production of t-shirts. Rivoli along her discovery of finding how t-shirts are produced encountered the intricacies behind international trade. Rivoli's argument in favor for free trade and economic globalization is persuasively argued, Rivoli talks about how globalization benefits and improves people's lives as well she shows the bad things that would happen if people didn't follow free trade .
In China many of the farmers moved to go work at a textile factory because life on the farm was not profiting them. The farm life is heavy work with no type of income where you have to do a lot of physical work, while in the factory you have income. The factory life is crowded you work nonstop but the workers were not putting in any heavy physical labor. These conditions have improved but back then like Michael Shellenberger thought, "I didn't realize that they did not actually want to be on the farm. They wanted to be in the cities like the rest of us. And I didn't see how globalization was a way out of their grinding poverty" (Rivoli 259). Many Asian workers seeked for a better future for themselves and for their families, moving to the cities to work in a factory was the only way they were going to improve their way of living and have more opportunities. Companies have been improving their conditions and benefits for workers throughout time, Rivoli believes you can be pro globalization and still want these companies to keep on improving and investing in their workers.
