The high protein diet I chose to analyze is the Paleo diet. The Paleo Diet is centered around consumption of foods that were available during the Paleolithic Era which dated back to around 600,000-700,000 years ago and ended roughly 10,000 years ago. It is designed to mimic the eating habits of our hunter-gatherer ancestors to promote better health and to achieve leaner body masses. The Paleo Diet consists of the consumption of all-natural foods rather than our modern day processed foods. Paleo dieters as well as researchers believe that ever-present health issues, such as heart disease, obesity, and diabetes can be partially linked to the modern diets and sedentary lifestyles found in America as well as other places. To simplify this diet, if a caveman didn't eat it, then it should be omitted from the daily food plans. The health issues that are seen today were rarely, if ever seen during the Paleolithic era .
The Paleo diet consists of the absolutely no grains/starches, artificial sweetener, salts, soy, trans-fats, legumes and for most this diet consists of no dairy. Sugar should also be eliminated but some choose to continue to use honey. The typical Paleo meal plan puts great emphasis on grass-fed lean proteins, different types of seafood, and fruits and vegetables. This diet also promotes healthy Omega 3's and mono-unsaturated fats. There are positive effects to the Paleo diet like a lot of diets. Due to this diet consisting of a high intake of protein some see it as an effective way of gaining lean muscle mass. This diet is a preferred plan for the athletes and specifically those who do CrossFit. CrossFit is a very intensive strength and conditioning exercise plan which makes these athletes ideal candidates for a diet that meets the necessary requirement of protein they would need to build and repair their muscles after their typical workout. Also the combination of a higher protein and a higher fat intake will help with keeping the body more full for much longer.
