Creating Meaningful Change

When I read this quote, I felt that Andrade was saying that we have strong enough hope pushing us to do anything we want to do, so why let anything small stop us from achieving with high hopes? I can relate to these quotes, with my success in skateboarding. When I first started to skate I had people constantly pushing me to be better, and with this support I gained the dream of one day becoming endorsed by a popular skate company. I never allowed myself to quit after breaking any bones, or being told I will never make it. This is a meaningful change because instead of giving up I allowed myself to grow. .
The next chapter of meaningful change is having a positive environment. Later in Why We Do What We Do, Deci says, "Determine what other events or circumstances might decrease intrinsic motivation "(31). He is telling his readers that he or she needs to disallow the things that will stop change; everyone should determine their flaws and fix them before they get total control. By allowing the problems to decrease our intrinsic motivation, we could be losing the ability to change our lives. In Why We Do What We Do, Deci describes how teachers and students work out better when they learn from each other. Deci says, "Teachers responded to the children by taking their perspectives and encouraging their Initiative" (143). The teachers found the things that help students the most to learn; they then used those things to raise the student's motivation in school. After the teachers help the students, the student in return share what they know to the teacher. I recall a time in high school where something similar happened to me. For example, I had a teacher in high school that taught the exact same way. The class was small; nevertheless, he found ways that each of us liked to learn. He related to us individually and created the autonomy we needed to be more involved in the class. He created the best possible environment for his students.
