Amelie - Cinema De Look

The use of green adds a nice contrast to the red of the raspberries and cherries. In certain romantic or passionate scenes, the color red is very prominent. An example of this is the scene where Amelie reads the made up love letters she has written to Mrs. Wells posing as Mrs. Well's dead husband, much of the scene is red from Amelie's dress, her bed sheets, down to the candle lights. .
Another key component of a cinema de look film that the movie applies wonderfully is the detailed use of visual images to indicate metaphors and/or emotions. The great usage of visual effects in the movie helps to emphasize and height the emotions Amelie is feeling in the moment. For instance, in one scene, when Amelie's lover, Nico, walks out of coffee shop where she works, Amelie is completely devastated because she has missed yet another chance and perhaps maybe her last chance to talk to Nico. This sadness is intensified visually as her whole body suddenly liquefies into a pool of water as if to show she metaphorically that she was drowning in her own sorrow. Another illustration of the usage of visual images is the scene where Amelie finally figures out who the mystery man is. We suddenly see the picture of the mystery man fit together as if to symbolize Amelie finally putting the pieces of the puzzle together to solve the mystery.
Lastly, "Amelie," is a good example of a cinema de look film because of its emphasis on youth. Through Amelie, the audience can see the theme of youth in her child-like behavior and timidness in her romance with Nico as well as in the practical pranks she plays on Mr.Collignon. It is clear that Amelie is a unique character. Because her parents kept her from playing with kids growing up due to a misdiagnosis, she has developed a quirky imagination, but this also made her very isolated and shy. In one scene, she is discussing with Mr.Dufayel's painting a girl who lurks in the background.
