Codeine is also a base drug of many homemade drugs. Codeine is mixed with pyridine to obtain morphine. This morphine can be acetylated to make heroin. Codeine can be injected intravenously or intramuscularly. A very common and scary drug named Krokodil (desomorphine) uses codeine as it main ingredient, followed by other common household ingredients such as what follows: Red phosphorus from match heads, paint thinner, iodine, gasoline, and caffeine tablets. Codeine is used as a pharmaceutical and as an ingredient for them. Codeine is also used as an agent for many other pharmaceutical drugs. Codeine is combined with paracetamol, aspirin, and ibuprofen. Synthesized codeine versions are very common painkillers. Some of the painkillers are tramadol, dextropropoxyphene, dihydrocodeine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone.
Codeine is not a very pleasant drug to use. Codeine slows down reaction time, makes users drowsy, and causes constipation. Users become physically dependent to this drug after a while of using it. This drugs dependence rate causes users to need the drug whether or not they like it. Some of the signs of withdrawal are runny nose, sweating, insomnia, weakness, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle spasms, chills, irritability, and pain.
