Portraying Border Lands in Movies

The movies Touch of Evil and Lone Star have many similarities throughout the outcome of the story. Both films are crime and mystery thriller films. The movies Touch of Evil and Lone Star were filmed under the same scenery; both movies take place on a crime and corruption scenery. Also, both movies are featured by a good-looking representative of justice and a beautiful woman who is wife/girlfriend/lover of the protagonist. Most importantly, both movies take place in a border land of Mexico and the Unites States scenery, and they have a few scenes in Mexico because they were mainly recorded in a border town of the Unites States. .
Borders are physical reinforcements of political resistance. Even though these movies have many similarities, the directors of these screenplays portrayed the concept of border quite differently. In the movie Touch of Evil we have this physical border, which is the port of entry to the Unites States. In here the characters go through the American border to go back to the Unites States and everything seems legal and usual. The characters of this movie are seen just walking up the street and crossing the border without making it difficult and it is like any other day. In the screenplay of Lone Star, there is the symbol of border which is the Rio Bravo. The figures of Lone Star are crossing the symbolic border between Mexico and the United States. Meanwhile they seem to be frightened and as soon as they cross the river they feel safe and they feel even better when they find people from their own race. Although they are more scared of immigration, they are not saved from their own race. In many cases of immigration to the United States, there is the feel of superiority; which means that someone feels superior just because they got to the United States before the new immigrants. A great example of this situation is in the movie Lone Star; when Mercedes Cruz, mother of Pilar Cruz, the main actress, sees some immigrants whom just crossed the river to the United States, she immediately called immigration to come and arrest them.
