However, the article also explains how the comprehensive program not only teaches abstinence as an option but also a variety of other useful information on sexual education: Comprehensive Sex Education teaches about abstinence as the best method for avoiding STDs and unintended pregnancy, but also teaches about condoms and contraception to reduce the risk of unintended pregnancy and of infection with STDs, including HIV. It also teaches interpersonal and communication skills and helps young people explore their own values, goals, and options (Alford).

At nearly every point, the comprehensive programs covers a variety of issues per topic lesson and tells of various ways to handle each situation a young adult may encounter in their sexual life, and the abstinence only program tends to avoid cover topics that pertain to what happens after sex, consequences, and anything besides the idea that sex before marriage is morally unacceptable. The abstinence only program tends to be strictly centered on religious views and lifestyles instead of knowledge and a curriculum. .

However, on the abstinence only program, the only way the argument was able to be made was through ethos because the program relies heavily on morals and values as it is.
