Analysis of Love-Themed Poetry

My love is such that Rivers cannot quench,.
Nor ought but love from thee, give recompense. (l. 5-8).
I wanted to analyze the word "recompense" (in line 8). Recompense is defined as "to give something (such as money) to (someone) as a reward or as a payment for loss or suffering. (Merriam-Webster) What she is saying is she wants the same love she gives him in return. This is starting to seem like a not so perfect marriage after all, one-sided. The metaphor in this poem which is described concise form of comparison equating two things that may, at first, seems completely dissimilar, often an abstraction and a concrete image. (Wadsworth G5) She writes, "I prize thy love more than the whole mine of gold." (l.5) A person cannot put a value on love because love is priceless. In her writing to her husband, she is passionate and the kind of love a lot of people wish they had.
Browning's "How Do I Love Thee" has a Romeo and Juliet feel to it. The love she has for her husband is very complex. The poet expresses her love for her husband, Robert Browning, who is also a poet who wrote "Meeting at Night. She uses iambic pentameter lines (Wadsworth 637) and starts to count the ways in which she loves him. Let's analyze the first two lines of the poem, "How Do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I Love thee to the depth and height my soul can reach (l. 1-2). Browning is trying to count the ways she loves him but when you are in love words cannot be counted. She uses symbolism and imagery to describe the height of heaven to which she would go for him, and no matter what is going on, her love is strong for him. She says, "I love thee to the level of everyday's most quiet need, by sun and candle-light." (l.5-6) Browning is saying she loves him whether it is day or night. She uses this metaphor to explain the complexity of her love for her husband. She has no limits or boundaries to the love she has for Robert that they must fight to keep their love alive.
