The Cruelty of Animal Experimentation

Another reason why the experiments fail is because humans have many different life styles. Some people are athletic, others are obese, part of the population drinks a lot of water, others smoke, and a few might be alcoholics. Therefore, it is impossible to find an animal with the same characteristics of a human (Thomas, Replacing Animals). In fact, researchers have been diligently looking for a cure for cancer, one of the deadliest and most agonizing conditions in the decades. .
Moreover, the animal that is known to be closest to humans is the chimpanzee, sharing 99% of our DNA; but even chimpanzees have great differences from living people. Human's brains are completely different in size, volume, and structure compared to chimps. Eyes, vocal cords, lips, and behavior are also very different from chimpanzees. To be more specific, "Even two completely unrelated humans are usually genetically more similar than two sibling chimpanzees" (Mulcahy, 10 Comparisons). It might sound fascinating that an animal shares almost all of their DNA with humans, but that is not as extraordinary as someone might think. Bananas, for example, share half of their DNA with humans, and yet, people do not use that fact to express how human beings and bananas are so similar (Mulcahy, 10 Comparisons). .
Another reason why animal testing is occurring, is to develop unnecessary cosmetics, and household products. There are already millions of lotions, makeup, and cleaning products in the world. Society will not benefit from another brand of makeup, or a new floor cleaning product. The only ones who gain in this equation are lucrative brands that become richer every year thanks to uninformed consumers. Some influential companies that test their products on animals include: Covergirl, Maybelline New York, Revlon, Tide, Clorox, Clean Clear, and Lysol (Companies that Still Test on Animals). .
The real question is, how are researchers funding their laboratories?.
