In Fra Filippo Lippi's painting the Virgin and Child, the Virgin Mary is dressed in very modern Florentine clothing and surrounded my jewels and beautiful, modern items. The Christ child appears to be like a child who is held up by angels. One particular angel closest to the front of the painting is rendered in such a way that it looks like he is starring at the observer of the painting. This work is under great Medici family influence as it Lippi was paid a great amount of money to make this scene modern and realistic. Another work under great Medici family influence was the statue David created by Donatello. This statue was the first nude statue to appear in over a thousand years and was revolutionary. It was located in the courtyard of the Medici family because they had paid a great amount of money for it. This statue was another work of art the family had claimed/paid for and was created for their satisfaction. The family was very wealthy with banks, had the first public library, and were merchants. Their influence on Florence and it's art was great because of their power. .
             3. Neo-Platonism in the 15th century was the philosophy of using old ideas and transforming them into the new modern world.
