My Mother - She Carried Me

After seeing her sitting beside my hospital bed watching me throw up and cry, I saw such a strong love, and I knew I needed to be better after this. My whole agreement with God was, if I got better, I would be a better person, a person just like my mom. Being in the hospital we got to know many people who were also sick. We were like one big, sick family. Even though all our stories were sad, I had to be a friend because I knew what it was like to be sick and not know why. When I finally started getting better, my mother and I took all of the kids stuffed animals to remember me because I wasn't going to be there anymore. Even though time has passed I still make an effort to go see some of the kids who are still there. My mother is always there for those she loves which is something I am trying to emulate. Even though it gets me in trouble at times, my friends know they can count on me. All the late night conversations and adventures to friends' houses have enabled me to be who my friends need me to be. They know they will always matter to me, and I will always be there for them. My mother's example of being quick to smile and make someone's day is something I am making an effort to do also. I smile whenever I meet someone new or pass someone in the store because a smile can change someone's whole day.
Another way my mother's unconditional love has made me a better person is I am more patient. Being patient with people is hard especially when they are not very nice. Back in the day I used to be extremely fast with come backs, now I just keep my words and thoughts to myself, unless I strongly feel the urge. Speaking my mind is not always a bad thing, but in my case, I had to remember that if I did not have anything nice to say I did not need to say it at all. Being a more patient person has helped me to not to get as frustrated and overwhelmed. I slow down and try to understand other people's reasons.
