             Hunger is constant growing problem here in america. Many think and believe that hunger is defined as the grumbling sounds and feelings in your tummy after a few hours of not eating but it is so much more than that. Child hunger is defined as "a feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by lack of food, coupled with the desire to eat." Child hunger is happening here in america not only in third world countries. Nearly fifteen million children in the United States are facing hunger today. To put that into perspective that is one in every five kids. There are many different things that cause child hunger like poverty, where you live. .
             The leading cause of child hunger in the united states is poverty. "In 2014, there were forty-six million seven hundred thousand people in poverty. This is up from forty-six million seven hundred thousand in 2007. The number of poor people is near the largest number in the fifty-two years for which poverty statistics have been published." According to Worldhunger.org. With forty-six million seven hundred thousand people in poverty.
             nearly 9.4 of those are children in poverty. Of course these children have families or parent that they live with but they are too hungry. With such little money that the family has they are sometimes forced to use it for bills, unexpected events, clothing, school etc. .
             There are things that help these kids who are suffering. For instance school lunch, National School Lunch Program, this program helps needy families feed their children throughout the school year and sometimes during the summer. "is a federally assisted meal program operating in public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day." They have many different programs that families can sign up for. This program is one of the leading cause in ending hunger.
